radio boise playlist for week of 06/18/07

If you grew up in a country where homes didn't tend to have garages, you didn't get to call that loud music on the the little scratchy 45 single 'garage rock'.

If you were in the UK or parts of Europe, you might have called that same music 'Freakbeat'.

But really, the genre labels and ever-morphing subsets don't matter, and more often than not they just get in the way.

Is it garage pop, or pop punk, or power pop, or garage punk? Post garage? Neo-punk?

Wait, what if they were signed to a major record label? It can't truly be indie-rock then. Hold it, that's a blues number... but it's being performed by a bunch of white British teens, so what is it now?

We all feel the need to codify and organize from time to time, but let's not forget to enjoy the music, okay?
