radio boise playlist for the evening of 12/13/06 - - Hey, something new! It was a LIVE show!

So - - Last Wednesday night I went in to the Radio Boise studio for some training on their sound board.

Just between you and me, the word on the street is that sometime in '07 the FCC might finally give the thumbs up for Radio Boise to hit the FM dial. In gearing up for that very exciting event, several of the DJs (including myself) are beginning to take the steps towards live broadcasting. Hopefully in the near future my current show will be supplanted by a live show that's oh-so much closer to the type of thing I've enjoyed constructing in the past.

My experience the other night was great fun; It's been - what? - ten months or so since my last show at KALX in Berkeley. Despite many clunky attempts at trying to understand the ins & outs of a set-up that's all new to me (or perhaps because of it) it was a great joy to once again be feeling the excitement and anxiety of live deejaying.

Hopefully it'll soon become a regular thing, and I'll start taking my shoes off and doing it right...

radio boise playlist for week of 11/06/06

When I assembled this particular hodge-podge of a show I thought I'd succumb even more fully to my whims than usual by including a lengthy piece by the great British singer/comedian Anna Russell.

Today, as I was putting finishing touches on this blog entry for the show I discovered that the incomparable Ms. Russell has just recently passed away at the age of 94 in Australia, where she'd been living since her retirement a mere three years ago.

Some folks could perhaps argue that as her best years of performing were well behind her, there's not much sense in crying now over her departure.
(I've weathered similar arguments regarding the deaths of other musicians, actors, etc, who hadn't contributed any new material in decades.)

Nevertheless, my feeling is that Anna Russell was one of the coolest treasures of the 20th century, and the world that now remains for the rest of us is just a little more diminished by her passing from this plane. Cheers, Anna.
